System overview
Metadata Hopper is a Django web application designed to work with the extensible text framework (XTF). With Metadata Hopper, users can map their original metadata to Dublin Core by telling the system where certain fields exist in their metadata, add tags from a controlled vocabulary for consistent end user browsing and connect digital images to the archival collections they originally came from. Metadata Hopper has five distinct sections to work in.
- Deposit
- In the deposit section of Metadata Hopper, you can create import mapping rules, which are created once per unique metadata set. These tell the system where to find values for certain elements such as title, subject, etc. within your metadata. Once import mapping rules have been created, you have the ability to upload content and to replace content that is no longer current.
- Tag
- This area allows you to work with the content you have uploaded. Here you can:
- Add or remove tags from controlled vocabularies loaded through Hopper.
- Review tags added manually or automatically by Metadata Hopper
- Delete records
- Navigate to an object’s record page
- Connect
- In the Connect section you can connect digital images with the archival collections they originally came from as well connect archival collections that have multipart finding aids.
- Preview
- Preview allows you to push content out to a preview instance of XTF. In the preview instance, you can view how your content will appear in the public instance of XTF.
- Publish
- Publish pushes content to a public instance of XTF. This allows content to be viewed by the general public.
There are also sections for searching and browsing content that exist outside of the workflow of Metadata Hopper.
